There are some friends you know you will have forever, even when they move halfway around the world and to another hemisphere. Ethan and Shae are those sorts of friends (they are also the sorts of friends who buy your son a book called "You Wouldn't Want to be an 18th-Century British Convict!"). They are in the States for summer break (so weird, especially as we are hit by arctic blasts in New York) and made the trip to see us for an afternoon. And we finally got to meet 17-month-old Amaya, whom we've only seen in Snapfish pictures and heard babbling in the background of long-distance phone calls. And, no surprise, she is awesome. And, no surprise, Elio loved her.

She kissed his toes and schooled him in the fine art of hugging. For the afternoon, they were the best of pals. It will be fun to meet the friends that Elio makes during his life. I hope he is as lucky as we have been.
