While Elio really likes flirting with all the pretty women on the subway, he's very, very comfortable and calm in the presence of men--all of his grandfathers (here with Grandpa Frank), his uncles, and, of course, his father. I think he likes their deep voices and their ability to just hang out and not try to entertain him too much. So this was on Easter, as we were about to dive into dessert. You can see a chocolate cake, but there was also a lemon meringue pie, the aforementioned two wheatberry pies (one made by Adam, the other by Patricia and Aunt Kathy), pasteria, sfogiatelle, napoleons, eclairs, and some chocolate-covered marshmallow candies shaped like eggs. Yum.
