Elio. What is he doing? 10 months old. Smiling a lot. We like that. He is in some kind of growth spurt. Both mentally and physically, which interrupts his sleep sometimes. When he slept with me out in Shelter Island this past weekend, he would wake up literally climbing up my body, to the head board and then trying to climb higher. Walking seems close, maybe.
Today he climbed the step up into our raised bathroom. He stood below the step screeching. (Which is also new and a bit disconcerting. We can say he is finding his voice and all that but it is really not pleasant to hear. I tell him this in the nicest way, but he does care to stop.) Any way, he stood there while we were both in the bathroom and just decided to come join us. (As Woody Allen says in Annie Hall, he is like a shark, constantly moving forward.)
Later today he climbed in and and just sat in the shower and played.
He is crawling quickly. Eating eating and eating. Mozzarella is a favorite. He gives us hugs and when we are really lucky, kisses, with a big open mouth. These sometimes get confused in his mind with bites. He is slowly understanding that it is not OK to bite. He is also understanding how to be a bit more gentle when touching other kids and Amelia.
Amelia is a whole other thing. He loves us, but he is in love with Amelia (and she is starting to come around a bit too). He has to check on her about 3 to 4 times an hour. Laugh at her every move, giggle and chortle when she is just laying around, which is often. And although he gets a mouth full of hair every-time, she gets the most open moth kisses in this house. We are a bit jealous.
I have found a nice park to go to now that the weather is turning a bit. Tompkins Square Park in the East Village. There are a lot of dads there, so that is nice. I am still not good at meeting new people and I think because we are moving I am not trying so hard, but it is nice to at least be in a place where there are men who are choosing to stay with their kids too.
It is going well, overall. Elio is great to be with. I feel lucky to be able to do this. Ok. a few photos now.
